VIRAR, JULY 31, 2008: On July 25, fifty three students of Stds. VIII and IX from St. Aloysius English High School, Papdy, attended a 90 minutes workshop on Study Methods, Character Building and Career Guidance. A survey questionnaire on how students study was filled in and tabulated. Scientific tools and techniques for employing the least amount of time to master study content were provided. Questions were answered and doubts and preconceptions about how to study, speed read and memorize cleared with the help of formulas like PAR, SQR4M and RUMLOR. A game was conducted for character building and the need to become literate about one’s future career instilled. The session was conducted by Nikhil from Jyoti. Simultaneously, 18 teachers from the same school were given an orientation course. The resource person, Fr. Bastian Thomas began the workshop with an action song. An article by Fr. Kenneth Pereira on Education was then read and discussed. Next, a celebration on “Time” was conducted by Fr. Bento D’Souza. As a result of this programme, the same sessions for students and teachers have been requested by the Carmel Sisters Institutions in Alibaug in the second week of September. The Principal, Sr. Cecilia was deeply appreciative of the training given, especially since the St. Aloysius English Medium School, Papdy will be sending its first batch of students for the tenth standard examinations next year.
