BIS #1383 - PERPETUAL PROFESSIONS AT MATUNGA

Mylin Noronha sdb MATUNGA, MAY 24, 2009: Cl. Mecanroe Lopes and Cl. Savio D’Souza today took a major step forward in their Salesian life by making their Perpetual Profession during the solemn Eucharistic celebration held in the Crypt of the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Matunga this morning. The principal celebrant at the Eucharist was Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial, and he was joined by Fr. Ajoy Fernandes, Vice Provincial, Fr. Elson Barretto, Economer, and several Salesians from across the province. Also present for this joyous occasion were the parents and relatives of Mecanroe and Savio. The significance and importance of the Perpetual Profession was well elucidated by the Provincial during the homily. He pointed out that making a ‘permanent commitment’ was both rare and praiseworthy in a world today that only believes in ‘temporary commitments’. Reflecting further on the three vows, he said that they can be well summarized in just one word – ‘detachment’. The Provincial also asked the congregation to pray for all the newly transferred confreres who officially take up office on May 24. He requested special prayers for the newly appointed Provincial Councillors and Rectors. The Eucharist was followed by the cutting of the cake and a festive lunch hosted by the Provincial House community.
