Don Bosco, Nashik staged a heroic comeback on the football arena on the eve of 62nd Independence Day by defeating the arch-rival team of Bhonsala Military High School which was the favourite in the finals of Inter School Football Tournament at the District Level. Out of the 45 schools of Nashik, it was Don Bosco which steadily leapt forward defeating many schools in the wake to reach the finals.

The final match was held against Bhonsala Military High School on August 14, 2009 on the Bhonsala playground. None of the teams could secure a goal but Don Bosco finally secured 4-3 on the penalties and was declared the winner of the Inter School Tournament. The match winning stroke was the penalty kick saved by Poornendu Pandey, the calm and composed goal keeper of the team. The Principal, Fr. Deigo Nunes who is a constant source of motivation and inspiration to the sports enthusiasts made it a point to visit Bhonsala School to cheer the school team for two matches including the finals. He was also the Chief Guest of the prize distribution ceremony. It was a moment of immense joy and pride for Master Rephan Castelino, the captain and his team to receive the trophy from the hands of their Principal. Certainly, the credit of building such a spirited and passionate team goes to their coach, Rajendra Bahadur, Sir Padmakar Ghumre, the Physical Trainer and of course Fr. Diego Nunes, the principal. This astounding success has paved their way into the Division level matches to be held in Jalgaon, beginning from September 19.

On the Independence day function, the Chief Guest Fr. Joaquim D’souza who is the provincial of Salesian University of Rome felicitated the boys and appreciated the efforts taken by the principal in this regard.
