For the first time in the history of Don Bosco School, Kawant, the under-14 football team won the State level Subroto Cup. The state level tournament was held at Vahelal, Daskohi taluka, Gujarat, on September 5 and 6, 2009. The finals were totally dominated by the Don Bosco team who scored 9 goals against the Dahod taluka team. In all, 27 talukas had participated in the Subroto Cup, and so, winning it was no mean achievement for our boys!
The Don Bosco team began the tournament well by defeating the Amreli team 4-0, after which they won their match with the Gandhinagar team 1-0. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Baroda City 3-0, and in the semifinals, they defeated the Kutch team 4-2. And their efforts paid off in the finals, where they routed the Dahod team 9-0.
During the entire tournament, the Don Bosco Kawant team played extremely well. In fact the officials, referees, the Chief Guest and the other teams who participated in the tournament were amazed by their skills and talent. Though it was a tiring affair to play continuously for two days, with firm determination and hard work, they proved to be the winners of the Subroto Cup.
Special thanks goes to Br. Ramesh, Bakesh, Sir Leslie, Javed, Michael and all the special coaches who sacrificed their time and talents for these boys. Kudos to the young team and their coaches for the hard work, sacrifice, love and above all faith in the boys. They have truly proved that impossible dreams can be achieved. Chak de Kawant!!
