NASHIK, NOVEMBER 23, 2009: The bi- annual Educational tour of the Divyadaan community was directed in having an experience of the city of Mumbai. It was a 2- day tour of some parts of Mumbai and a visit to a few Salesian houses.
On the first day i.e November 18, the brothers had a darshan of some of the famous spots in South Mumbai and Bandra, namely; The Gateway of India & Taj Hotel at Colaba, The Marine Lines, The Hanging Gardens, The Bandra - Worli Sea-Link, Celebrity Bungalows along Band Stand and The Juhu Beach. The sight of the sea was an exhilarating experience to many a brothers from the North east.
On November 19, after joining the people for 7.00 mass in the shrine they headed for Don Bosco Center for Learning in Kurla. The priests took them for a tour of the campus and gave them precise details of the place. They explained to them the motive behind the many initiatives. “It is to provide top quality education at a low price for the minority of Catholics and the poor,” were the words of the Rector.
Moving on to Don Bosco, Borivli they saw the functioning of the parish and school and there on proceeded to Don Bosco Boy’s home. There the technical boys were very pleased to see so many brothers. Both the communities received them with warm hearts.
Lunch awaited them at Dominic Savio, Andheri. After which the boarding boys held a family circle in their honor consisting of a song, address and a band piece. We reciprocated them with our own words of gratitude and a gratitude song, which we sang for all the communities at their respective places.
The educational tour was truly enriching. The community got to see the varied heights of life, from the skyscrapers in south Mumbai to the tarpaulin huts in the suburbs. They gazed at people from different walks of life blending together to form the crowd that is the life of Mumbai. The final message of Fr. Adolf was, “We need to be prepared not only for the present situations but also for the situation 10 years hence. For in the future the setup of the present society of the rich and illiterate poor will have changed to that of the struggle between the rich and the educated poor.”
