NASHIK, OCTOBER 16, 2010: On Sunday October 10, 2010, at the Forty third Nashik Jilha Sahityik Mela (Nashik District Literary Meet) organized by Sarvajanik Vachanalaya (General Library), Fr. Nelson Falcao, sdb, received yet another Sahityik Puraskar (literature award) for his monumental work on the modern and contemporary translation and critical edition of the Kristapurana. About Five hundred eminent thinkers, authors, writers and poets were present at the one full-day Literary Meet.
The Chief Guest Mr. Uttamrao Kamble, the Editor of Sakal daily newspaper praised highly the scholarly work of Fr. Nelson and gave the award to him. At the Library Hall where all the new books were exposed for information and publicity, the volume of the Kristapurana was placed at the centre.
The theme of the Literary Meet was “Are the Means of Communication totally Responsible for the Deterioration of the Marathi Language?” What emerged in the various talks by experts and the panel discussion is that there are other factors which are responsible for the deterioration of Marathi language, namely, globalisation, business and marketing culture, consumerism, fast age, electronic speed and inventions, and others.
