BIS #2122 STARTING AFRESH WITH 'GRO MO 2010'

Glenford Lowe sdb

LONAVALA, NOVEMBER 4, 2010: A decade ago, prophets of doom predicted that ‘GRO MO’ would be ‘NO MORE’... Today, as the scout flag was lowered and the tents pulled down, one could sense a new breath of life for Scouting in the Province. ‘GRO MO’ is here to stay. Thanks to Fr. Ajoy Fernandes, Vice-Provincial, who made every effort to give ‘GRO MO’ another chance. The three hundred and thirty one scouts (265) and guides (66), seven volunteers, sixteen Scout Masters and Seven Guide Captains, together with a dynamic team of eighteen young Salesians and led by our Camp Chief, Fr. Goyal and ably supported by Fr. Lorenzo, Fr. Glenn and Bro. Savio made GRO MO 2010 a wonderful Scouting experience for all.

Fr. Cletus D’Souza lit the camp fire. Circling around the grand campfire and under the starry skies, dancing away to rhythmic drums and traditional songs, interspersed with scout yells and yarns, the competition was stiff all through. Surely, Lord Baden Powell would have smiled upon each one… his dream was still living on.

The final morning dawned with the scouts and guides at their very best. At the official flag break ceremony, Fr. Flovi D’Souza, Principal of Don Bosco – Savedi, highlighted the need to create ‘perspective change’ to overcome the challenges of today. He brought home the message that a ‘Perspective change’ triggers a ‘procedural change’ and then the results and fruits are phenomenal.

Mr. Sudhakar Tambe, District Commissioner for Scouting (Pune) officiated at the closing ceremony and congratulated the Salesians for this wonderful venture. Mr. Jadhav, Police Inspector of Khopoli was also present. Fr. Cletus D’Souza, Rector of the host community, motivated the participants of ‘GRO MO 2010’ to be peace makers for a better world. Fr. Lorenzo, Principal of Don Bosco – Lonavala, proposed the vote of thanks. The long awaited prize-distribution ceremony then began. Don Bosco – Savedi, with seventy five points bagged the best troop award. They also bagged awards for the Traditional Dance, Pageant-o-rama, Anthem Singing and Inspection. Don Bosco - Borivili followed closely with fifty seven points. Don Bosco - Naigaon stood third over-all with fifty four points. They also bagged the award for the most disciplined troop. The best Troop Leader went to Don Bosco Nasik.

A few hours later, the rain gods showered their blessings upon the camp site with a very heavy downpour. Surely, the seeds sown at ‘GRO MO 2010’ have every reason to germinate…. The ‘growing’ has already begun. We look forward to GRO MO 2012. Thanks to all at Don Bosco Lonavala for being there for ‘GRO MO 2010’.
