BIS Correspondent

BORIVLI, OCTOBER 04, 2011: Fed up with the civic bodies complete disregard for their grievances and tired of staving off builders from grabbing their homes.  Mobao Gaothan Panchayat has decided to build pressure on administration their way: the villagers have decided to revive the "Old Panchayat System" and have started electing Sarpanches to represent them at the ward level.  The Gaothans are clusters of old villages mostly inhabited by East Indians, one of the original settlers in the city.  Each Sarpanch will act as a corporator and he will be the voice of his Gaothan. On October 2, 2011, Sarpanch elections were conducted in Gorai, Culvem and Manori villages. In Gorai village four hundred and seventy one people voted out of which Rossi D'souza, from Don Bosco High School, Borivli, got three hundred and eighty nine votes defeating his nearest rival by three hundred and seven votes.
Congrats Rossi, Don Bosco is proud of you.
