DAKOR, FEBRUARY 27, 2012: On Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 1.30pm Don Bosco Dakor organized the annual Basketball Knock out Tournament for the Salesian Boarding's of the Gujarat region and the Umreth Deanery boarding's. Five Salesian boarding's participated in the tournament. Don Bosco Baroda emerged as the new champions with the score 31-20.
Fr. Byron D'silva sdb was Chief Guest for the tournament. In his speech he encouraged the young to play a game of fairness and of a sporting nature which can be always remembered. The young boys were moved with the spirit of the words and truly executed a skilled game. Mr. Francis Fernandes and Mr. Arif Mohammad, both from Mumbai were called to referee the tournament. They were admired for the clear and precise decisions which create an ambient of fair play. Don Bosco School Baroda defeated the previous two year emerging champions Don Bosco Snehalaya in the finals. The game was indeed an exciting one. Both the teams proved themselves equally good in the first half but the second half ultimately proved as a favour to the Baroda school team with the quick swifts of lay ups and accurate three pointers.
The winning team got the trophy and the individual prizes. The runners up too were awarded with individual prizes. Certificates were offered to all the participants. Fr. Alex Fernandes, the Rector of Don Bosco Dakor, Fr. Steve Rodrigues, the Rector and coach of Snehalaya and Bro. Tony Manickam were called upon to give the prizes. Cl. Ashwin thanked all the participants, the co-ordinating committee, the referees and Cl. Justus Mendis for organizing the tournament in a systematic manner.
All the participants went away with the feeling of satisfaction of giving their best and to practice far better to win the trophy for the next year.
