BIS #2857 ST. JOSEPH'S - NOT DONE YET!

WADALA, MARCH 07, 2012: The steady trickle of trophies in sports for the scholastic year continues unabated at St. Joseph's.  This time around it is the turn of all the games that we participate in: Handball, Football, Basketball and Chess.
In handball, our u-12 school team had a point to prove when it won the runners' up trophy in the recently concluded MSSA handball tournament.  In a truncated match marred with controversies – school sport is not devoid of them – our spirited youngsters went down fighting to P.G. Garodia by a wafer thin margin 14-15!  Their march to the finals was convincing, defeating established schools in handball: Aditya Birla High School, IES Bandra and Jamnabhai High School, Vile Parle.  The school coach, Mr. Raj – incidentally, he had to cut short his stay at UK, Khopoli, the venue of the staff picnic, to be with the students on the day of their all important matches – played a pivotal role in forming a formidable team from the limited resources at hand.
In the Savio Hoop tournament organized by Dominic Savio, Andheri, our talented basketball players secured the second place in Level A.  After outclassing all the opponents in the matches leading to the finals of the tourney, our team was outplayed by the champions, Don Bosco, Matunga, in the final game.  However, nothing can be taken away from this team that has emerged as a champion outfit under the tutelage of the coaches Mr. Raju and Mr. Somnath.
Another trophy, this time in football, was there for the taking, but our team fell to Don Bosco, Matunga, in the semi finals via the tie breaker.  In the Tata Tea Jago Soccer Cup tournament for u-15, our team members did exceedingly well to qualify for the semifinals and give a good account of themselves in the game against Bosco's.  It was a proud moment for St. Joseph's when one of the students, Master Jimit Shah walked up to the dais to receive the best goalkeeper award of the tournament.  In yet another development three of our footballers Tej Bohara, Kavan Napanda and Vismit Chavan have been called up for selections by WIFA (Western India Football Association). Well done!
Special mention needs to be made of our chess wizard, Atharva Chaturvedi, who continues to win accolades in this field of sport.  In the interschool Premier League organized by Sports Gurukul at Islands Sports Academy, Master Atharva won the first place for his outstanding display.  This prodigious talent will surely make it to the big stage with his zeal and commitment for the game.
Keep going boys – the school is proud to have you around!
