THIRTY GLORIOUS YEARS AND MOVING ALONG
Mrs. Clara Fernandes
WADALA EAST, AUGUST 27, 2012 : The parish of St. Dominic Savio celebrated thirty years of its existence on August 22, 2012.
To commemorate the occasion, all the priests who had served the parish were invited to concelebrate at the solemn Eucharist. Besides the parish team those who made it were Fr. Wilfred D’Souza, Fr. Aloysius Furtado, Fr. Edwin Colaco and Fr. Baptist. Fr. Mathew who continues to serve the parish was present right from its inception.
Before the commencement of the Eucharist there was a powerpoint presentation giving us an insight into how the church and the parish have grown over the last thirty years. The entrance procession included thirty members of the community each with a lighted lamp which was placed besides the statue of Dominic Savio, our patron saint.
In his homily, our parish priest Fr. Vincent spoke about how the parish had developed in the last thirty years. He also acknowledged the fact that God had chosen Fr. Mathew was an instrument to build St. Dominic Savio’s Church thirty years ago and he is still with the parish to witness its growth through the years.
Fr. Mathew chose to name the parish after St. Dominic Savio, the patron saint of youth after he saw so many children in the vicinity of the parish. He also mentioned that every major development took place on a feast of Our Lady. The church was blessed on August 22, the feast of the Queenship of Mary.
Towards the end of the Eucharist, all the parishioners who were present at the time of the consecration of the church thirty years ago, were asked to come forward and the entire congregation prayed for them. The youthful choir livened up the liturgy and all present went away with a commitment to carry on the mission with even greater zeal as we go marching ahead towards our Ruby Jubilee.
