SON OF DIVYADAAN CHOSEN FOR EPISCOPAL MINISTRY
DIVYADAAN, SEPTEMBER 04, 2012 : August 24, 2012 will go down into the annals of Divyadaan for a singular event ,the first of its kind for our ‘young’ 32-year old institution, as one of her alumni was nominated to serve as bishop. On that day the Vatican announced the appointment of Fr. KUTTINADAR George Rajendran SDB, of Silchar Province, as Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Thuckalay in Kanyakumari Dt. of Tamilnadu. He succeeds Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, who was the bishop of Thuckalay. Mgr. Rajendran hails from the same diocese.
He made his first profession as a Salesian on 23 May 1994. Between 1994 and 1996 he was at Divyadaan, Nashik doing his post-novitiate and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He was ordained priest on 29 December 2003. Currently he is serving as Rector and Principal of St. Anthony`s Higher Secondary School, Shillong. The Episcopal ordination of Mgr. Rajendran will take place on September 16, 2012.
As a student at Divyadaan Msgr. Rajendran’s formators and companions remember him as a very pleasant person, cheerful and friendly. One could see that he had leadership potential. He was a good person to have in the community.
Divyadaan rejoices as the first of her sons is chosen for pastoral care of the faithful as bishop. We pray that the benevolence and pastoral compassion of Mgr. Rajendran will help build the flock in Thuckalay diocese. Ad multos annos!
