TEACHERS’ DAY AT DON BOSCO SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, NERUL
Joyce D’mello Fernandes
NERUL, SEPTEMBER 08, 2012 : There was a programme to be organized…..students to be trained……scripts to be prepared……Yes, it is an important day in the school year. The only thing different is that this is one day that the teachers are not involved in any of the above. In fact they are the NOT the ones backstage, but rather, they are the ones enjoying the once-in-a-year-luxury of being in the audience. They are the ones who are appreciated and honoured for accepting this Vocation and for being in this noble profession.
Teacher’s Day was celebrated on September 05, 2012 with much festivity in Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul. Teachers, dressed in their best finery, were escorted to the Assembly Hall by students of Class VIII and Class IX. A short introduction on the significance of the day and a prayer to invoke God’s blessings began the programme.
It was a pleasure to the ears and the heart to listen to a medley of songs performed by the School Orchestra, trained by Fr. Anthony Fonseca, the Principal. The foot-tapping and vibrant dances by students of Classes VIII and X were refreshing. The synchronized “slo-mo” ( slow - motion) and acrobatic dance moves of the ‘Desi boys’ of Class XI, captured the hearts of the teachers as well as the audience.
Fr. Bonnie Borges, the Manager, then distributed gifts to the teachers. The programme ended with a Vote of thanks by Supervisor, Mrs. Daphne Fernandes, to Mrs. Veena and Mrs. Mary, who were in-charge of the programme, parents and participants, not forgetting the Manager and the Principal, who spearheaded the programme.
Students from classes V to X, felicitated their respective teachers and then left for home. Teachers then had a photography session to capture the memories of the day. Later, all proceeded to `SIGREE” in Vashi for a sumptuous buffet lunch. The Staff bonded over a lavish spread. At the end of the day, teachers left feeling really special. It was truly a special day for special people!!
