MOMENTS WITH THE KING

Parishioner of Resurrection Church

VIRAR-MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 30, 2012 :  There would have been no better approach than to encounter with the King of Kings in the tranquillity of the Night.

Soon after the Saturday evening mass, on 24th November, 2012, the Resurrection Parishioners were fortunate to have a Prayer Vigil in preparation to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King.

As soon as the vigil was declared open by the Parish Priest Fr. Lawrence, the congregation moved into the mode of prayer by surrendering themselves in the presence of the Lord, singing the Hymn “All to Jesus I surrender”

The Gospel according to St. Mark (5: 21-43) was chosen to emphasis the theme “New Evangelization”. Fr. Cleo Braganza, helped the faithful to understand the significance of the passage and the message that it emits. Very profoundly Fr. Cleo, highlighted the essence of Faith and its importance in our lives, especially during this Year of Faith. It was made clear to seek New Life one has to walk through the path of reconciliation and repentance. The strength of prayers and the need to pray for others was also shared, requesting each one to intercede for the other.

The second phase led the congregation through the Exodus experience. Meaningfully the slides projected on the screen helped to reflect and accept the Gift of Life, the fact and purpose of being created by our perfect God. The melodious choir (the youth of the parish) helped to fill the atmosphere with beautiful and meaningful hymns of praise and worship.

The concluding part was the adoration/ benediction, leading the people to submit themselves completely in the Glory of the Risen Lord with the help of the Taize chants. This moment was very precious and was filled with contentment, words will never help to explain or understand, it has to be only experienced.

Special thanks to the Parish Priest Fr. Lawrence, Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Osborn and Fr. Cleo Braganza for catering to the spiritual needs of the parishioners and also enlightening them to bear witness to the Risen Lord.

THE HOUSE OF KAPADVANJ GUIDES BOYS TO MAKE LIFE CHOICES

BIS  Correspondent

KAPADVANJ-AHMEDABAD, NOVEMBER 30, 2012 :  A Course on Life Orientation for boys from the eight till the twelfth grade was held at Don Bosco Kapadvanj from the 23 till the 25 of November 2012. Twenty eight Catholic youngsters from the villages Karamsad, Petlad, Kathlal and Anand, were present for the camp.

Fr. Mayank, the co-coordinator of this camp guided the sessions. He made them reflect on their interests, skills, and values they hold dear using exercises designed by Prafulta, Andheri. Using this data he helped them to look at various career options. After this he talked about the religious vocation and contrasted it with a life in the world. He pointed out that a religious vocation is not a career but a calling to dedicate one’s life to God.

Fr. Alex Fernandes too took a session on Faith. Since it was the year of faith Fr. Alex helped the boys to reflect on their responsibility towards the church. He pointed out that it was each one’s responsibility to look for Christ the Son of God within oneself. The boys also got a chance to have all there doubts cleared as all their questions were answered during the open discussion.

The boys attending the course interacted with the aspirants of Don Bosco Kapadvanj during the Mass, recreation and games. Some of these boys were impressed by the way our aspirants live and expressed the desire to be part of our institution in the coming year. The vocation promoter of the Gujarat region, Fr. Mayank has a planned strategy of vocation promotion. He first visits all the boy’s homes and talks to their parents. He next gets them to attend a seminar like this one where he speaks of life choices and broaches the topic of religious vocation. Promising boys are next invited for a pre-vocation camp where they are screened again and later invited for the vocation camp.

Besides the sessions, there was a lot of fun activity too. There were organized games, volley ball under flood lights, an inspirational movie, Lakshya and a picnic to Galteshwar. The boys were touched, to see all the Fathers participating in the activities; playing with them on the games field, eating with them, joining in their prayers and so on. Isn’t our Salesian assistance effective in touching the lives of the young?

The boys enjoyed themselves during the three days of reflection, input sessions and workshops that were conducted by Fr. Mayank and Fr. Alex. The boys went back with a new vision and a strong desire to grow in areas where they need to.

SALFAM OUTREACH TO DON BOSCO NASHIK

Fr. Wilfred D'Souza sdb

MATUNGA, MUMBAI NOVEMBER 29, 2012:  The SALESIAN FAMILY OUTREACH to Nashik took place on Saturday 24 November. A bus left from Borivli, cars from Virar and Andheri; and a fifty seater bus generously sponsored by the Matunga Alumni Unit, altogether carried almost eighty-five members of the four branches of the Family.

Our first halt was at the famous Shrine of Infant Jesus, where after a short prayer we celebrated Holy Mass with Fr. Wilfred D’Souza our Delegate. After the Mass we proceeded to Divyadaan. We were welcomed by Fr. Savio D’Souza, Rector and the community who introduced us to the place and its scope. The Provincial, Rev. Fr. Michael Fernandes who was at Nashik, also addressed us. We were then ready for the good lunch laid out by Fr. Thomas Challissery.

We visited the Salesian Sisters Hostel for working and girl students and then proceeded towards the NOVITIATE - a place of peace, silence, prayer and study. After some time spent in the Chapel Fr. Wilfred spoke to us emphasizing the purpose of the outreach: to understand our Salesian works and to help our young clerics to understand the varied branches of the Salesian Family as well.

Then we went across the road to the Don Bosco High School and Junior College,

and the Don Bosco Parish. The small group of Cooperators from here who enthusiastically accompanied all through the day, showed their great joy to meet the Salesian Family for the first time.

The refreshing cup of tea and a group photo back at Divyadaan brought the Outreach to a close, as we headed for the long journey back home. It was a valuable experience that opened our eyes to great Salesian works, and served as a means of strengthening us in our own Salesian way of life.

PATHARDI ADVENT RECOLLECTION FOR JESUITS

Bento D’Souza

BHINGAR-AHMEDNAGAR, NOVEMBER 29, 2012 :  Fr. Dr. Nelson Falcao SDB preached the Advent Recollection to eighteen Jesuits on the Kristapurana of Englishman Thomas Stephens at Pathardi on  November 27, 2012 from 10.00 am. to 1 o’clock.

In a carefully prepared process presentation, Fr Nelson F. integrated human development using the evaluation and visioning model called six hats of lateral thinking and linked it to the rich creativity of Thomas Stephen’s Kristapuranic Christian  thought, philosophy & theology.

In the six hats exercise he evoked from all pure information of the Ahmednagar area, sharing of personal feeling, described the benefits, plotted the advantages, charted the new frontiers and made known the dangers of not taking the story of Jesus seriously as a sure compass and benchmark for our future Church life.

Besides, he invited the Jesuits to make an analysis and reflection of the present real situation of the Ahmednagar District and design the future course of action in view of the burning issue of Marriages and divorces-annulments taking place in Marriage tribunals and do something positive about dealing with the issues. The participants had ample opportunity to present their points of views regards designing their strategic road into the future.

This was an eye-opening process and the input integrated both human development and religious ideology. The Jesuits who listened were amazed at the rich heritage that Thomas Stephens leaves behind, as an enduring legacy of faith and devotion.

No more can Jesuits lament that  ‘a religious community is one, where people come together without knowing each other,  stay together without loving each other and die together, without mourning each other’. The Jesuits mourned the loss of the death of Thomas Stephens and his vision for Marathi-Christian literature and committed themselves to fulfill in their life-time the mission and mandate of making Christ and his Kingdom a reality in the lives of all people, Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam.

The loss of the work of T. S. by the Jesuits to the archives of History marks the gain of Salesians who have unearthed an exquisite and valuable catechetical tool for new evangelization in the poetic content of the Kristapurana, just four hundred years later. Decades ago, what began as a elitist art- form (genre) called the Kirtan in the portals of art and artistes in Church, now becomes available in the mainstream of the common man’s home, the streets and market place as the Christ of the ordinary human beings in the Kristapurana epic.

Congratulations to Fr. Nelson Falcao for being welcomed to intervene in the ‘ethos’ and ‘psyche’ of the Sons of Ignatius Loyola, our Partners in Ministry,  and relevantly contribute what Thomas Stephen has to offer Marathi Life, Tradition & Culture today as a result of his erudite scholarship and successful academic Ph. D. ( Powering holistic Development) treasure hunt.

DAKOR-AHMEDABAD, NOVEMBER 27, 2012 :  Christ the King Parish Dakor organized a preparatory camp for the First Holy Communion children of the Parish from November 18 to 24, 2012. This camp was also open for the children of other parishes.

The camp was headed by the parish priest Fr. Isaac and co-ordinated by the three communities (SDB, FMA, and St. Ann’s). There were twenty-one children who attended this camp. The boys stayed in Don Bosco boarding and the girls in the Pushpanjali boarding.

Every day of the camp began with an animated meditation followed by the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist was made meaningful with singing and a brief homily. The animators took sessions at various intervals to instruct the children in the faith and to make them feel at ease through creative media of action songs, videos, films, games, puzzles, and exercises.

Following were some of the topics dealt with: God our Loving Father, Creator, Human Being God’s most Unique Creation, Trusting in God, Jesus the Bread of life, Encountering Jesus at the Eucharist, Jesus sends the Holy Spirit, God’s Forgiving Love, Jesus reconciles us with the Father, etc.

The children were given the task of memorizing the basic prayers of the faith. Various games were organized everyday in the evening. There were various competitions organized for them like bhajans, skits, fancy dress, etc. The children responded very enthusiastically to the animators through their active participation during the sessions.

The parish priest Fr. Isaac culminated the camp by taking a brief revision of all the topics that were taken during the days. He also prepared five candidates who will be receiving the sacrament of Baptism on Saturday December 01, 2012.

The camp concluded with the Camp fire on Saturday 24 November. Each one came forward and performed their items. The winning team and the runners up team were awarded with prizes for their active participation. The children look forward to the day they will make their first confession and will be receiving First Holy Communion on Sunday December 02, 2012.

CHARITY FILM SHOW FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN

An Initiative of Don Bosco Balprafulta in collaboration with Cinemax Entertainment Ltd

ANDHERI-MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 26, 2012 :As a part of the Children’s Day celebration, Don Bosco Balprafulta, (Andheri) in association with Cinemax Entertainment Ltd organized a screening of the movie ‘Delhi ki Safari’ on November 26, 2012.

A Special screening was held simultaneously across 10 cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nasik, Delhi, Kolkotta, Cochin, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Guwahati and Baroda.  More than 1500 vulnerable children from the slums and streets who otherwise would not get an opportunity to watch a movie in a big theater like Cinemax or celebrate Children’s Day and voice their views and opinions on their rights were given this golden opportunity.

Through this, Don Bosco Balprafulta aimed to create awareness among the people who directly or indirectly play a part in the developmental process with regard to issues of children. This move was also to disseminate information and knowledge to all sections of society on the rights of children and to motivate people to come forward to help children who are in difficult situations.

Along with the screening of the movie, a 15 sec. slide titled ‘My Education..My Right’ will be screened for few days across Cinemax theatres in India.

Children had a joyful experience of wearing 3D glasses to watch the show and of riding the escalators.  Through the animated characters in the movie the message of protecting the wild life and conserving the environment was conveyed to the children.

Ms Gaelyn Mendonca , MTV VJ gave a good surprise to the children as she too joined the children and shared some good laughs with them at the movie. After the movie she interacted with the children on the importance of education.

Don Bosco National Forum for the Young at Risk (Delhi) and Cinemax Entertainment Ltd are committed to creating a child friendly society for our children.

About Don Bosco Balprafulta.

Don Bosco Balprafulta is a Salesian response to the desperate situation of marginalized children in the city of Mumbai. Balprafulta was established in April 2000 and from very beginning its focus was to enable children to procure their rights through state and civil participation. The focus remained on marginalized, exploited, vulnerable children but the attempt was to deal with them in a non institutional way. Balprafulta decided to move away from institutionalization and instead strengthen community systems, parenting, family systems and Juvenile Justice System.
