PARISHIONERS KEEP ABREAST WITH CIVIC AFFAIRS

WADALA-MUMBAI, MARCH 16, 2013: There is talk around that the Wadala area is a sleeping giant that has great potential for being counted as prime housing and commercial activity.

With the Freeway from Town to Chembur, the Monorail and the proposed Trans-harbour link, together with the easy connectivity to any part of Mumbai, the sky is the limit. There is a lot of Slum Development projects in hand as well as redevelopment of old buildings in this part of the city, and many of our catholic families especially in the Wadala Village and Sarkar Nagar/Kidwai/Madhav Nagar areas are involved in this whole process.

To help our parishioners in this task, the parish organised an evening session on the SRA, Re-development and new Property Tax matters.  The interactive enriching and very informative session was held in the evening of March 07 in the parish hall.

Through a power point presentation the Social activist Mr Godfrey Pimenta from Marol, gave us a wealth of information on the SRA (Slum Redevelopment Authority) program, the documents needed for redevelopment and the process to be followed as well a peek into the history of the new property tax, the computation of the enhanced taxes to be paid and the way we can lodge our protest for the exhorbitant taxes levied arbitrarily by the BMC based on the ready reckoner for the different areas in the city and suburbs.

There was such a surfeit of information that the participants that numbered over a hundred asked for another session and for notes on the topics. All in all it was an informative and well documented session that created quite an interest in the parish.
