SUPER MASTI SUMMER 2013

By: Fr. Brian Moras sdb

WADALA – MUMBAI, JUNE 04, 2013:  On the of April15, 2013, the children's summer club named 'Super Masti Summer' (SMS) began at 'Our Lady of Dolour's Church' Wadala. The club ran from April 15 to 22 May 2013.

Some of the interesting activities of the club were:

Dance, Drawing, Fancy Dress, Water Games, Telegames and Singing Competitions, Indoor Tournaments of Chess, Carrom, Table-Tennis and Badminton drew good participation.  The well-organized evening tournaments were a huge draw. The treasure hunt to Don Bosco Matunga complex, the 'Grand Camp-Fire' and the picnic to 'Pine-Wood Resort' at Karjat were thrilling experiences.

'Guitar Classes' for the interested youngsters of the club were conducted by Mr Ronnie Gomes.  The children put up a performance of ten minutes during the Camp-Fire as the fruit of these classes. Organ classes were also conducted.

Inspirational Movies: 'Soul Surfer, Alvin and the Chip Monks and St. Dominic Savio' were shown to the children and reflected upon.  Growth sessions were also conducted and well appreciated.

The children were invited to the Shrine of Don Bosco's Matunga on May 06 to sing for the feast of St. Dominic Savio.  The children also sang for the feast of St. Mary Mazarello on May 13 at the Mazarello Welfare Centre, Wadala.  They joined the FMA Sisters for the feast day celebrations with games organized by the volunteers; snacks and prizes were sponsored by the sisters.

A day of service was organized on May 14, 2013.  A newspaper collection drive to collect money for the summer club picnic was a good success. The picnic itself was a beautiful moment of bonding and healthy fun for the sixty four who made it to the heavenly 'Pine Wood Resorts- Karjat.'

The camp-fire on the evening of May 21 was a grand affair and brought to a close the activities of the club.  The next day we had the conclusion of the Club with a thanksgiving Eucharist and prizes given to the youngsters, both for their attendance and for the winners of the various tournaments.

The club was run under the guidance of Fr. Brian Moras sdb along with thirteen dedicated volunteers.  A sincere word of thanks to our Rector and Parish Priest dear Fr. Godfrey for his support, interest and help for the club.   A word of thanks to Fr. Bernard for permitting us to use the school hall for the club.

An evening club from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm was also conducted for the college and working youngsters and this too turned out to be a fruitful and meaningful venture.
