by BIS Correspondent

NORTH ARABIAN VICARIATE, JUNE 17, 2014: The community of Salesians in the North Arabian Vicariate organized a vocation camp from June 9-12, 2014 from 9 am to 5 pm. The twenty-eight youngsters who participated in the camp were chiefly from two main parishes of the vicariate, namely the parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Salmiya and the Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait city.

On the onset of the camp Fr. Blany Pinto, the Rector of the community, welcomed the gathering and introduced the two priests; Fr. Constantine Fernandes and Fr. Clive Telles from the Konkan Province who would conduct the camp. Fr. Lionel Braganza, the vice rector and the main coordinator of the vocation camp oriented the children towards the camp. Joining him was Fr. Francisco Pereira, who further addressed the gathering and conveyed the wishes of the Nuncio Petr Rajic and the Bishop Camilo Ballin.

One of the highlights of the camp was the session conducted by John Fernandes, Regional Product Compliance Manager of Al Shaya, initiating the students to think "out of the box" and respond creatively to situations. Having a deep and personal relationship with Jesus was the emphasis of the camp. Through a paper cutting story of two friends, John taught the youngsters, that power comes from knowing Christ personally and allowing Him to be in charge of your life.
How one ought to respond creatively and effectively in a given situation was the next topic of his session. He addressed to them with the help of an audio visual presentation on Arambh an NGO which uses discarded cardboard boxes and converts them into writing tables and school bags. All in all, the youngsters enjoyed the art, craft and creativity session very much. Fr. Franco Pereira thanked John Fernandes and exhorted the youngsters to express their gratitude to John not with mere words but by being more creative.
