BIS # 4284 DB, LONAVLA ORGANIzES A THREE-DAY SPORTS FESTIVAL

LONAVLA-PUNE, DECEMBER 15, 2014:    Don Bosco High School and Junior College organised a three-day Sports Festival from December 10 – 12, 2014. All the students participated in at least one game. The Sports Festival began on December 10, 2014 at 8.45 a.m. with the opening ceremony. The school and junior college students were present for the opening ceremony.


The Chief Guest for the event was the Rector, Fr. Solomon Rapol. The opening ceremony began with the colourful march past of the four houses – Red, Blue, Green, Yellow. The Chief Guest took the salute and hoisted the school flag while the entire school and college sang the school anthem. The four athletes Rahul, Siddi, Hari Om and Ashwin took the lap of the school ground before lighting the torch. Thereafter, the Chief Guest spoke a few words and declared the Sports Festival open.


This was followed by the Mass Drill and the Relay (Juniors, Inters, Seniors). The relay was followed by the Tug of War for boys and girls. The last item of the opening ceremony was the Teacher's item. The Brothers, along with Fr. George Carlos, conducted a 'seven-circle bombing the city' for the teachers. After a short break, the students of standards 8 to 12 went for classes while the games for the students of Stds. 5 to 7 began. They played games like football, blind ball, bucket ball and square ball. The games ended at 2:30 p.m.


The next day, December 11, 2014, the students of standards 8 to 10 took part in the games from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. after which classes resumed as usual. They played football, cricket, basketball and throw ball.The Junior College students took part in the games on  December 12, 2014 from 8.30 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. The boys played football, basketball, volleyball, and cricket, while the girls played throw ball, cricket, and kho-kho.


At 2:45 p.m., the closing ceremony commenced. The players who won the various games were given certificates. The volunteers and referees were also felicitated. The overall winners, Red House, and the runner-up, Yellow House, were presented with a trophy and prize. The Principal, Fr. George Carlos, proposed the vote of thanks. This was followed by the lowering of the school flag and putting off of the torch. The Sports Festival came to an end with the singing of the National Anthem.
