BIS # 4320 CHRIST THE KING CHURCH, NERUR, WIN THE SINDHU CHRISTI KALA MAHOTSAV

by Fr. Brian Moras, sdb

NERUR-KUDAL, JANUARY 17, 2015: 'The Sindhu Christi Kala Mahotsav' conducted by the Social Communications department of the Diocese of Sindhudurg, at the Milagris High School Grounds, Sawantwadi turned out to be a roaring success on January 11, 2015. It was an inter-parish competition based on presenting the Culture of a State or a people in 8 minutes. The competition was keenly contested by the parishes, and 'Christ the King Church, Nerur' emerged as winners.

Christ the King Church (a Quasi-Parish, run by the Salesians of the Konkan Province) presented the Maharashtrian Shethkari (Farmers) Culture in the form of a skit and dance. It was interesting that our small Quasi-Parish of Nerur outdid many of the big and talented parishes of Sindhudurg. It was for the third year running that our parish was winning this prestigious competition, the first year being 'a singing competition' and the second year 'a dance competition'.

"This year the big and highly talented parishes in the Diocese tried their level best to win, they in fact did very well- we managed to do better. Our secret was our careful planning, team work and determination," said Fr. Brian Moras, sdb, the priest in-charge of the Quasi Parish. "Our people came in large numbers to vociferously support their parish. Our parishioners shone brightly at this event as the Master of Ceremonies was handled by a well prepared group of four of our parishioners and they also won six spot prizes during the programme."

How does a simple parish comprising of very simple parishioners  manage to come up with stunning performances year after year was a question that tickled the minds of the audience as the programme came to an end.
