MUMBAI, JULY 11, 2015: What does Formula One driver, Lewis Hamilton, have in common with Don Bosco Vyawasaik Prashikshan Kendra?
Well, they are both associated with German motor giant, Mercedes Benz!
How?
The Don Bosco institution signed the definitive Memorandum of Understanding agreement with the company to provide educational avenues and technical training for the youth of the country.
The company has agreed to financially and intellectually support in the setting up of a skill training centre at Don Bosco, Chinchwad, Pune with the name of "Advanced Auto Body Repair Training Centre".
Through this initiative, students will use the immense knowledge, concentration and training that Mercedes-Benz India has to offer for vocational training of students interested in making a career in the manufacturing world in body repairing.
Staff and students welcomed the members of Mercedes-Benz India to their campus and Father Corlis Gonsalves addressed the gathering about the work carried out on the campus and the vision of the institution.
Suhas Kadlaskar - Vice President, Human Resources and Legal Affairs at the company - spoke about the philosophy they follow. He stressed the need to work for the marginalised and support them with the best facilities and machinery.
Devdutta Chandavarkar, Vice President, After Sales and Retail Training, thanked the staff for their passion in teaching.
"We strongly feel that we need to keep pace with the changing dynamics in the world of manufacturing and it also believed that there is a need for upgradation at our vocational centres so that we can generate skilled talent tailor-made to deliver in this highly competitive sector," he said.
"With this initiative we hope to deliver highly skilled and trained manpower that will cater to the automobile industry and also ensure them of a source of employment and self-sustainability. We should teach our students how to fish and not give them the fish on a platter, because if we give them a fish, their needs will be satisfied for a day but if we teach to fish they will never be hungry."
The venture is slated to begin in 2016.
