BIS #4507 THE GREEN INITIATIVE

by Father Francis Fernandes

PUNE, AUGUST 6, 2015: 'Rosary Gardens', 'Cycling groups', 'Batti Gul hour', 'E-waste drives' and 'Recycling dustbins' are some of the initiatives that parishioners of Sacred Heart, Yerwada have undertaken to mark August as a 'Go green' month.

The environmentally friendly enterprise was inaugurated on August 2 after the celebration of the holy Eucharist. The congregation was encouraged to do their part in protecting the planet.

Sacred Heart Youth or SHY have taken the lead in implementing the green theme for the month. They have convinced almost 40 families in the parish to adopt a green lifestyle.

Their plans include: Go Green WhatsApp groups to share ideas on reduce-reuse-recycle, tree plantation drives, kitchen garden competitions, energy saving drives, Go Green consultations and Go Green stalls.

With the young guns, gunning for all things green, Sacred Heart, Yerwada is surely nurturing greener pastures in their backyard!
