BIS #4515 YOUTH TREK TO TANSA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

by BIS Correspondent

MUMBAI, AUGUST 14, 2015: A group of 50 youth took time out, away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai and headed to the hills on the outskirts of the city, to unwind amidst the lush green countryside at the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary on August 9.

The troop began their excursion - that was organised by Don Bosco Youth Services, Matunga – early.

They first took a train to Atgaon and then headed by jeep to Agayi village, where they had a quick breakfast before setting out on foot for Tansa dam.

The village setting, the fresh air and the beautiful green landscape was a welcome change from the pollution and grime of Mumbai.

The trek was a good occasion to relax, cherish the beauty of nature and make new friends. When they stopped for some rest besides a flowing stream, they were guided in a reflection about their own life's journey, its ups and downs and its final destination.

On their return to the village, they enjoyed a traditional-hot and spicy- Maharastrian lunch.

They then visited Mukta Jeevan Ashram, Vehloli,  run by the Helpers of Mary congregation of nuns and spread over 65 acres.

The Ashram is home to leprosy patients, senior citizens and HIV-affected children and women.

The sisters spoke to the youth about the disabilities of the inmates, their problems and challenges. The youth then personally interacted with the inmates, which helped them appreciate the courage and inner strength of those suffering from debilitating and terminal diseases.

When they stepped out of the city, the youth had not envisaged they would return revived, refreshed and rejuvenated- soul, body and mind.
