by BIS Correspondent

MUMBAI, AUGUST 17, 2015: Shelter Don Bosco in Wadala brought down the curtain on their Bicentenary celebrations of the birth of Don Bosco, by organising a special seminar on substance abuse among youngsters on August 14.

Shelter joined hands with 13 non governmental organisations and Don Bosco Bal Prafulta to conduct the seminar in order to raise awareness about the dangers of youth being associated with drugs.

A professional group enacted a short play on how substance abuse can be harmful to society. A second presentation focused on how substance abuse can affect a person's daily life. It presented ways through which the youth can combat the drug habit.

Another presentation reflected on Don Bosco's life. It helped give those present an opportunity learn about the works of the great Saint.

Doctor Shanbaag, a retired professor from KEM Hospital, was the Chief Guest of the programme. She shared her insights on substance abuse and summarised the whole presentation. She also focused on combating HIV AIDS and drew a link between AIDS and the problem of substance abuse.

Prior to the programme an Inter-NGO poster competition was held and various NGO's submitted their posters prepared by the children. They were judged and three winners were announced during the course of the event.
