by BIS Correspondent

MUMBAI, DEC 10, 2015: The Salesian Cooperators of the Mumbai Province met for their Congress at the Cooperator's room in the Provincial House in Matunga on December 5. The Congress, as mandated by the Statutes (PAL), is a meeting of the elected members of the local units to elect the Provincial Council. There were representatives from seven units of the Mumbai Province,  Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) provincial delegates present at the Congress.

There were six nominations for the four elected posts of the council. However, two nominees were not present at this Congress and hence the four nominees present were considered elected. The four Councillors then met and elected the members for the different posts in the council. Jacinta D'Souza from Wadala(W) was elected as a Coordinator, Christopher Gomes from the Kurla unit was elected as a Secretary,  Anthony Estebeiro from Matunga was elected a Treasurer and Freida D'Souza from the Bandra unit was elected for Formation.

The outgoing members, Sharon D'Souza Pretto, Doly Afonso and Richard Tauro, were thanked for the services they rendered. Father Francisco Pereira, based in Kuwait, then addressed the Congress and briefed the members about the Salesian work in Kuwait. He also spoke about the Salesian Cooperator's unit. The meeting ended with a prayer and a blessing.
