by Father Roshan Gonsalves

MUMBAI, OCT 26, 2016: Shelter Don Bosco, Wadala, hosted the Monthly Mela themed around Nutrition and Food for 72-street boys on October 20.

The Mela began with a prayer service with registrations and breakfast thereafter. Father Gregory Almeida, Rector, Shelter Don Bosco welcomed all present and informed them about the topic of the day and gave them a few tips on how to maintain good health.

Thereafter a powerpoint presentation was done by Raymond, the coordinator of Saksham Project,  where he explained that roadside food, though cheap, can be harmful to the body and does not provide the necessary supplements and nutrition that are required by the body.

He talked about the importance of Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins and Minerals. The children then broke up for various activities such as hair cutting, nail cutting, bathing, medical care and distribution of clean clothes.

Shabra, Monali and Gracy, shelter staff, taught the street boys how to make kandeels (lanterns) and lamps (diya) for Diwali.

Salesian Cooperators from Our Lady of Dolours Parish, Wadala came forward as volunteers to help out at the mela.
