BIS #5212 ECO-EXPOSURE VISIT

by Father Bento D'Souza

KARJAT, SEP 14, 2017: Fifty-five, first year Bachelor in Management(BMS) students and four staff members from Don Bosco Center of Learning, Kurla undertook a three day live–in eco-exposure visit, from September 9 to 11, to the Mothe Vengaon mountains, near Don Bosco Yuva Sanstha, Karjat, in a bid to promote the spirit of adventure, growth of the self, development of personality and character building.

Brother Alex Carvalho gave the introductory session, summing up what lay ahead over the visit. The participants were then led into group-building exercises and warm up ice-breaker sessions by Royal D'Souza, camp co-ordinator.

Father Mario Vaz conducted an interactive session on 'Broken Squares' and concluded his sessions by celebrating the Holy Eucharist for the Catholic participants in the evening. Games, free time and an evening session topped by a cultural talent programme brought the first day to an end.

The second day began with a trek to collect firewood, which would later be used to cook food in groups. The youth then participated in a range of games like 'human chess' and 'drop the person in the circle'. The team from Don Bosco Yuva Sanstha also facilitated six adventure games, which included 'A-walk', 'Austrailian walk', 'Ankles apart', 'Pipe and marble' and 'Magic tiles', which made the youth build a team spirit.

On the third day, Father McEnroe Lopes of Don Bosco Youth Services, Matunga, conducted a training session and spoke on personality and character building for success. After lunch, enthused and empowered by their eco-experience, the participants left Karjat with a taste of the mountains.
